About Us

Jack Charles was born out of passion for people and property and carries the names of the founders’ sons.

We are an independent estate agent committed to providing a professional local service.

For a seller, the experience can be so much more than achieving the right price from a committed buyer. We respect that there can be an emotional aspect to selling a home that is unique to each seller.

For a professional landlord this tends to be more transactional, but we always consider it a success story when any property becomes someone’s new home.

It is equally important for us to go the extra mile to find the right buyers and the best tenants for each property and we remain dedicated to a mix of traditional and digital marketing, featuring on all of the major property portals and on social media.

At Jack Charles, we believe in making our business all about you.

The Founders

James Hincks

I began my working life at the age of 17 after leaving Bethany School in Goudhurst, to work in sales roles at Harrods and Selfridges before embarking on a career in estate agency.  Working across the Kent and Sussex regions for Halifax Property Services in their flagship office in Tunbridge Wells, Freeman Forman in Battle, Your Move in Sevenoaks and Freeman Forman in Tonbridge, I gained a wealth of experience and an in-depth knowledge of the market and area.

For the past 8 years, I worked for an independent agent in Tonbridge where I built an extremely successful team, turning the residential sales department completely around to become the market leaders in just over a year, which we maintained for the duration of my time there.

Having sold hundreds of houses over the years, I have always had a burning desire to run my own Estate Agency, a dream that always seemed out of reach.  However, circumstances have a funny way of helping you find your path in life and the strength to make that leap so a few months ago, with the support of a wonderful family and a great business partner, Jack Charles was born and established in Tonbridge, a town that has been such an important part of my life.

Tonbridge is steeped in history not only as a town but for me personally.

My Grandmother Sheila Hoole, who lived to the grand age of 108, lived and worked in Tonbridge. She contributed to the war effort by driving Italian prisoners of war from what is now the Weald of Kent School to the orchards and farms in and around East Peckham. My Grandfather, Gilbert Hoole taught at Tonbridge School and was the House Master at Park House for many years. My uncle also had great success with his businesses which were based in both Tonbridge & Tunbridge Wells.  I also married my wife, Sarah at Tonbridge Castle, so Tonbridge has a special place in my heart.

My vision for Jack Charles and our clients is to keep things as simple and as pleasurable as possible. While I can’t promise an entirely stress-free journey, we are all committed to providing clarity and assurance at those important moments.

So, whether you are buying or selling, a Landlord or tenant, we will make our business all about you.

My love for property started in my early 20’s whilst working at the Dorchester hotel, I found the building fascinating and each room I explored had its own story.  I also learned a lot about how décor and layouts can be adapted to provide each resident with a unique and memorable experience… a business where the customer was always number one.

My first property was a terrace house, not quite the splendour of the Dorchester but it was my own little palace and I was motivated to bring a feeling of comfort and homeliness to that space.  My second was a one-bedroom flat, which taught me a few lessons about the importance of location and the complexities of leases and shared spaces.

My husband and I met whilst we were both working at the head office of the Carphone Warehouse.  I was PA to the CEO and I loved working for such a vibrant young company with core values established all around the customer.  I learned that if you set up a business around the customer, with a lot of effort and a bit of luck, success can follow.

My passion for property grew and even after long days in the office my husband and I were happy to sacrifice many evenings and weekends, for the chaos and stresses of building works.

Leaving my corporate role allowed me to balance becoming a mum, to three lovely children, with playing a more active role in our family’s ongoing property adventure of redevelopment, refurbishment, new builds and property management.

In summary, my personal journey has led me to an exciting opportunity to bring my passion for property and commitment to great customer service to Tonbridge, through Jack Charles.
